2022 Clos St Julien

Note di degustazione
Sporting a youthful, unevolved, inward style, the inky-hued 2022 Clos Saint Julien offers tons of darker, almost blue fruits interwoven with notions of damp underbrush, violets, orange blossom, and iron. It's a rich, full-bodied, concentrated Saint-Emilion offering sweet tannins, solid balance, and a great finish. It needs a solid 4-5 years to round into form and should cruise for 15+ in cold cellars.

The 2022 Clos Saint-Julien has a potent, finely delineated black cherry and boysenberry bouquet that soars from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, fine mineralité and tension with a poised and persistent finish. This is a lively and sapid Saint-Émilion that should not be overlooked.
Just 50% Merlot in the vineyard. Cask sample. Light nose. Correct ripe fruit with lots of Cabernet Franc influence but it doesn’t seem to translate into a Cab Franc aroma. Rather muddy tannins on the end. Not the most refreshing wine. (JR)
Catherine Papon Nouvel is owner at this tiny 1.42ha estate, made with an even blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. High phenolics, as you would expect in the vintage, and high grilled cedar and sandalwood oak aromatics, along with strong coffee beans and chocolate notes. This is high intensity but has a softness to the tannins once they relax into the mid-palate, with good energy although on the far end of the muscular scale, with a touch of heat on the finish. One to watch over ageing.
