Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2030-2050, Neal Martin, Mar 2026

The 2022 Lanessan did not convince out of barrel, but I must compliment this showing. It has a marine-scented bouquet, with hints of brine infusing the black fruit, aromatics that take you to the banks of the Gironde! The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, smooth tannins. Fine depth, quite grippy with impressive sustain on the finish. Long-term potential here. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Great quality, this has a ton of structure and personality and easily plays with the big boys in the Médoc. Has settled in over ageing, still with slightly austere tannins but they are locked in to cassis and bilberry fruits, with a ton of crayon and liquorice bud. Located on high quality river strip of gravels in Cussac Fort Médoc on the outskirts of St Julien. 33% new oak for ageing, Domaines Bouteiller, 45ha. A great value choice, one point upscore.

Firm slightly drying tannins, grilled smoked leather, fleshy blackberry and raspberry fruit. The tannins close things in on the close of play, narrowing through the palate, emphasising bitter orange and saffron, with slate and liquorice. Struggles to gain balance, but it gets there, and is a well constructed wine with Left Bank signature. 33% new oak barrels for ageing.
