At this stage, the 2022 Lousteauneuf is more austere than it appeared during the en primeur tasting, presenting a surprising paradox. It reveals aromas of lead pencil, spices, licorice and dark berries. Moderately weighted and juicy, the wine is round with structured tannins and an assertive tannic frame that leads to an elegant, long finish.
The 2022 Lousteauneuf has a perfumed bouquet featuring a touch of black cherry mixed with licorice that opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and quite fine-boned, with grainy tannins and a slightly granular, persistent finish. This is a finely crafted Médoc.
Cru bourgeois supérieur. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Petit Verdot and 18% Merlot, gravel on deep clay. Yield 32 hl/ha. Aged 68% in French oak barrels, 17% amphorae and 15% wooden vats. Less deeply coloured than many. Sweet and exciting energy on the nose. Really fun! Very polished. A thoroughly good drink! Reverberates on the end. GV ? (JR)
