The 2022 Fonréaud is more precise and fresh than it appeared during the en primeur tastings. Revealing a delicate, elegant bouquet of dark wild berries, mulberries, sweet berries and spices mingled with barely noticeable oak, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated on the palate with velvety tannins and a fresh, long and licorice-inflected finish. This is a real success, significantly enhanced by its élevage.

The 2022 Château Fonréaud is spicy and complex, with solid aromatics of red and black fruits, leather, incense, and dried flower notes. These carry to a medium-bodied, supple, elegant, forward Listrac that's nicely balanced and incredibly satisfying. Based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, drink bottles over the coming 10-15 years.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2027-2045, Neal Martin, Jan 2025

The 2022 Fonréaud has an excellent, well-defined bouquet with pure blackcurrant, bilberry and violet touches. The oak is very well integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and tensile, with sapid black fruit tones. It gains weight toward the finish with a citrus-fresh aftertaste. This Listrac should drink well for 15 to 20 years.

Situated at the highest point in the Médoc (at a huge 43 metres above sea-level), this estate is thought to be named after a spring on the site, from which Henry II supposedly drank (a “royal fountain”).
