Punteggio 89/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2025

The 2022 Château Maucaillou is based on 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in barrel. It has a slightly modern, well-oaked nose of darker currants, sappy flowers, and violets. This carries to a medium to full-bodied Moulis that has plenty of richness and depth, building tannins, and a good finish. Give it a few years.

The 2022 Maucaillou has held on to its open and generous nose, featuring finely delineated aromas of red berry fruit laced with scents of spice box and a little cumin. The palate is medium-bodied and to be frank, is a bit of a letdown after the promising aromatics. It's strict, bitter and missing some flair and personality on the finish. Maybe it will improve with bottle age?

This is an exuberant vintage at Maucaillou, showing width and depth through the mid palate, with silky tannins. Has charm and impact, raspberry bud and tight tannins on the finish.

51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. Mid crimson. Extremely sweet and fruity with a certain biscuity note. Not the most sophisticated wine but it will do very nicely on a supermarket shelf. Loose texture but the balance is perfectly OK. (JR)
