Punteggio 88/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Feb 2025

The 2022 Château Canon Pécresse offers currants, smoky earth, graphite, crushed stone, and blackcurrants. Medium-bodied and nicely balanced, it’s focused and enjoyable, with ripe tannins on the finish.

The 2022 Canon Pécresse presents an intense and powerful nose that feels slightly overdone and lacking some delineation compared to its peers. The medium-bodied palate features grainy tannins but misses some tension and feels rather predictable on the finish.

The Merlots are so ripe that they had towards dark fruits rather than red in this vintage, and here you find them set against plenty of limestone salty character coming through. Closed aromatically, needs a few more years to really open up but there is depth and potential here. Harvest September 9 to 23. 1/3 cement vats, 2/3 225l and 400l barrels, 33hl/h yield, organic certified since 2020.

Closed at first, hard to encourage the aromatics out of the glass. As it opens there are vivid black fruits, orange zest, pomegrantate, bitter aniseed, good quality and as usual in the vintage a wall of tannins, given breathing room by the magic of limestone. Stephane Derenoncourt consultant. 33% new oak, harvest September 9 to 23. Now overseen by the team at Château La Dauphine, organic certified, aged in 33% new oak, and the rest between one year old barrels and cement vats.
