2022 Mauvesin Barton

Note di degustazione
This is a terrific-value wine this year – something Damien Barton-Sartorius attributes to the vineyards’ limestone and clay soils. Yields were a healthy 35hl/ha, but it’s produced a delicious, vibrant and fresh “luncheon Claret”. A blend of 55% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc, with a third new oak, this is classically proportioned, with juicy dark fruit and a mineral freshness.

The 2022 Mauvesin Barton has a clean and precise bouquet, quite mineral-driven, with black fruit, cedar and light tobacco scents that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, clean blackberry and boysenberry fruit, lightly spiced, with a cohesive and persistent finish. Again, long-term potential and one of the best vintages in recent years. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.
A blend of 55% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Mauvesin Barton is showing well today, evoking aromas of spices, mulberries, dark berries and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and lively, it's framed by structured tannins with a long, spicy and ethereal finish.
The Grand Vin 2022 Château Mauvesin Barton is beautiful and well worth seeking out. Ripe red and black fruits, chalky minerality, and floral notes are just some of its nuances, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a pure, elegant, layered mouthfeel and beautiful tannins. I think you could safely put this up with the best to date from the château, and it’s going to evolve for 20+ years if well stored.
