The 2020 Lafleur-Gazin is the first year produced under the ownership of J-P Mouiex, and a stricter selection of parcels was made in this vintage than hitherto. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries and berries mingled with notions of licorice, violets and new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, with sweet, powdery tannins that frame its generous core of fruit.

All Merlot, the 2020 Château Lafleur-Gazin is a charming, layered Pomerol that has already accessible aromatics of red and black fruits, cedarwood, tobacco leaf, and camphor. Nicely textured and medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has terrific balance and will evolve for 15-20 years without any issues.
The 2020 Lafleur-Gazin has not really ameliorated on the nose with a slightly disjointed aromatic profile, stemmy black fruit, touches of pencil box, fresh but missing some bandwidth. The palate is slightly better with strict, quite rigid tannins, minty, yet doesn't really "kick on" towards its conservative finish.
The 2020 Lafleur-Gazin is quite closed and unexpressive today. There's good depth and yet the tannins are pretty overpowering at this stage. Sweet tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers and licorice emerge, but only with great reluctance. Lafleur-Gazin is a bit of a bruiser today, but it has plenty of energy and persistence. I am cautiously optimistic here.
