L’If saw some frost damage this year, which slowed the vines’ growth, but the resulting wine is impressive. Inky purple, it’s overt and expressive – with pure, dark plummy fruit leaping out of the glass. The palate offers a tart mouthful of crunchy fruit, complemented by super fine tannins. Both elegant and concentrated.

The 2022 L'If feels a little overripe on the nose, touches of raisin and prune infusing the red berry fruit and strawberry cheesecake. The palate is medium-bodied with a bitter entry, quite tart, but it feels compressed and lacks flair towards the finish. I found this quite hard going compared to its peers and was surprised to find it was L'If. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.
Tasted blind. Still quite blue. Mid crimson. Mild nose and the acidity is almost more present than the tannins. This doesn’t seem to be trying very hard. (JR)
Aromas of sweet cherries, berries and plums mingled with hints of licorice and a discreet framing of toasty oak introduce the 2022 L'If, a medium to full-bodied, suave and polished wine that's lively, seamless and refined, concluding with a chalky, mineral finish. This is one of the best wines from this estate to date.
