Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc raised in barrel, the 2022 Château D'Arce is a rich, powerful example of this cuvée that has tons of ripe blue fruits, graphite, and crushed stone. This carries to a full-bodied Castillon with a beautiful sense of acidity (pH is 3.3), ripe, polished tannins, lots of sweet fruit, and a great finish. I would drink bottles over the coming 10-12 years, yet I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see it keep longer.

The 2022 D'Arche, a blend of 95% Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, fermented in barrels and matured for 12 months in a combination of new barrels (50%), used barrels (49%) and Wineglobe (1%). It exhales aromas of ripe pear, pineapple, baked melon and spices mingled with lovely notes of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, dense and complex, it’s round and enveloping with a fleshy core of fruit, freshness and a delicately bitter finish. This particularly well-executed, outstanding Château d’Arche will offer a broad drinking window. This is a real success. There are 142 grams per liter of residual sugar.
Empty bottle 529 g. 85% Sémillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc. From 20 h of vines planted on mostly gravelly soil. Vinified in stainless steel and barrels. Aged on lees for six months: 40% in tank, 40% in used Sauternes barrels, 20% in new barrels. Almost stinky nose and a bit hard work on the end (but then I have just been tasting a Spätlese!). Very good in a Bordeaux context. Long and rich. Just such a shame that Sauternes producers have to resort to making dry wine, however good it is. GV (JR)
