Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2028-2036, Neal Martin, Mar 2026

The 2022 Bouscaut is higher toned than the La Chapelle de la Mission or Clarence Haut-Brion, with a little more VA perhaps, though nothing to worry about. It just translates more of that warm summer. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fleshy and sweet, but it feels a bit formulaic on the finish. Perhaps time will imbue more personality. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

The second year of organic conversion marks a new start in Bordeaux's classic estate. Evoking aromas of dark berries, flowers, spices and oak, the 2022 Bouscaut is medium to full-bodied, round and dense on the palate with chewy tannins and a slightly dry finish attributed to an oaky, toasty aftertaste and characteristic Cabernet grip. Overall, it represents a commendable effort.

The 2022 Château Bouscaut is brilliant stuff, with a more modern yet balanced, impressive style. Cassis, smoky oak, scorched earth, and graphite notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's a killer Grave that will benefit from 4-5 years in the cellar and have two decades of overall longevity. The 2022 is 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Malbec.

The 2022 Bouscaut offers red and black fruit, though it may not be as complex as its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and moderate depth, but the finish feels a little undernourished given the growing season.
