Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2026-2042, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Dec 2025

Like so many 2017s right now, there is no need to wait, although acidity is notaby higher than the 2016 or 2018 on either side. Expect raspberry bud, black cherry, cocoa bean, mocha and crayonn drawn out and sappy, good mouthwatering finish. 50% new oak for ageing, Diam cork, cold soak, natural yeasts, punching down, no added SO2 during fermentation, harvest September 18 to October 5. Laurent David estate director, Sénéclauze family owners.

The 2017 Marquis de Terme was picked from September 18 to October 5. It has a slightly rustic bouquet compared to the previous two vintages, which is a little meatier, maybe with just a touch of Brett. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh entry, fine acidity, nicely focused and cleaner than the nose. Mocha and touches of leather surface towards the finish, supple and perhaps just missing a bit of grip. Fine, though, it was probably earlier drinking than other vintages. Tasted at the Marquis de Terme vertical.

The 2017 Château Marquis De Terme checks in as 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot brought up in 50% new French oak. It's a total charmer, with a ripe, spicy, complex, medium-bodied style as well as terrific notes of ripe red and black fruits, tobacco, sandalwood, and truffly earth. It's drinking beautifully today yet will cruise for another 10-15 years with no issues.

Tasted blind. Mid ruby colour. Fresh rubber and cherry skins on the nose. Good flesh on the palate – briary and a little marked again by a hint of fresh rubber. Sandy, chalky finish. (TP)
