This showing of the 2019 Laroze suggests that the sample dispatched to the UK during Covid was faulty. This has a fresh, quite detailed bouquet with blackberry, cedar and tobacco scents - very focused and quite Left Bank in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a high-toned opening, exuberant with plenty of energy, vivid compared to its peers. A sheen of vanillary new oak on the finish seems simpatico with the fruit. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. A little too evolved on the nose? Then quite pinched on the palate. Where’s the opulence of the vintage? A bit stringy on the finish. (JR)
I loved the 2019 Château Laroze from barrel and it's showing nicely from bottle, with an almost Médoc-like bouquet of red and black currants, tobacco, cedar pencil, and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with silky tannins, this complex, nuanced, elegant Saint-Emilion is going to drink beautifully for 10-15 years.
Exhibiting aromas of blackberries, loamy soil and toasty new oak, the 2019 Laroze is medium to full-bodied, chunky and extracted.
