A solid red with currant, chocolate and walnut character. Medium body, round yet firm tannins and a delicious finish. Typical Bordeaux from this excellent vintage. A blend of 60 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 40 per cent merlot. Needs two to three years to soften. Drink in 2022.
The 2016 Larose-Trintaudon has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, cedar and pencil box aromas, not quite as intense as the best Haut-Médoc but certainly translating the quality of the growing season. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin, rounded and almost velvety in texture, plush and pure with ample red cherries and wild strawberry on the finish. This is a very approachable, early-drinking Cru Bourgeois but there is class here and the substance to suggest it will age well. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.
48% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot. Ripe and generous on the palate with fragrant oak spice and a touch of candied character to the fruit. Moderate length, smooth tannins, bright acidity. (RH)
