Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Lifted with red and dark fruits. Refined tannins, mellow, approachable and well balanced. Generous fruit, not trying too hard, perhaps in need of a little more acidity. (JH)

The 2020 Le Dragon de Quintus has a perfumed nose with cedar-scented red berry fruit, forest floor and tobacco aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins. It is nicely balanced and elegant in style, with a brisk, peppery finish that has the sapidity to tempt you back. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
The 2020 Dragon de Quintus exhibits rich aromas of plums, cassis, dark berries and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy palate that's ample and enveloping, finishing with a slightly heady, kirsch-inflected finish that reflects its lofty alcoholic degree.
Cask sample just before bottling. Soupy and so sweet! But with a slightly tart edge. (JR)

Ch. Quintus is the flagship Saint-Emilion estate of Domaine Clarence Dillon (owners of Ch. Haut-Brion and Ch. la Mission Haut-Brion). Following the purchase of Ch. Tertre Daugay in 2011 and Ch. l’Arrosée in 2013, the two were merged to form Ch. Quintus. The first vintage of the wine was 2011.
