Punteggio 15.5/20 · Da bere 2026-2032, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2025

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. There’s an unusual minty note to this. It’s not top drawer but no one could object to it. It’s rather more like a sweetish red wine than a Pomerol. A little depth but not much. (JR)

The 2021 Château Beauregard is based on 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in wood (45% new). It has a healthy ruby/plum hue as well as ripe black cherry and mulberry fruit that gives way to more spice, damp earth, and subtle chocolate-like aromas and flavors. It's nicely balanced and has a supple, layered mouthfeel and ripe tannins, all making for a delicious, relatively forward, outstanding Pomerol to drink over the coming 10-12 years.

The 2021 Beauregard, which is the first vintage with a seasoning of Cabernet Sauvignon (2.5%), has a light bouquet, though one that is nicely defined with black cherries, wild strawberry, bergamot and a touch of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, well-balanced with a dash of white pepper and graphite toward the finish. Moderate in length, it is an easy-drinking Pomerol to enjoy over the next decade.

The 2021 Beauregard is a tasty, expressive Pomerol to drink now and over the medium term. A healthy dollop of Cabernet Franc in the blend adds aromatic presence. Dried herbs, incense, tobacco, menthol, licorice and sage are some of the notes that open with coaxing. I would give this a few years in bottle to come together. There's a lot of wine here.

Named after its founder, Bernard Beauregard, this property is one of few Pomerol addresses to have an actual château – here a stately 18th-century construction designed by the man behind Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre.
