Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2018-2028, Neal Martin, May 2018

The 1988 Saint-Pierre was opened from magnum at the château since that is all that remains in their bins. Now perhaps the larger format as a role to play, but the nose here is very attractive: blackberry, cedar, a touch of the old mahogany antique bureau. With time, there is a touch of fresh mint. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a crisp line of acidity, fresh irony red fruit with hints of marmalade and allspice, leading to a composed finish. This is perhaps one of the surprises of the 1988 Left Bank wines because the property did not have the same reputation now as it did back then. But this is a delight. Tasted at the château.

Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2003-2008, Robert Parker, Jan 2003

This wine has evolved nicely, showing a classic Bordeaux nose of fruitcake, cedar, licorice, tobacco, and black currants. Medium-bodied with moderate tannin yet excellent concentration, this wine should continue to develop and last where well-stored. Anticipated maturity: Now-2008. Last tasted, 3/02.
