The 2013 Extra-Brut Aÿ Vauzelle Terme is a wild, exotic Champagne. It's a wine for readers who love Pinot Noir. Kirsch, hard candy, ginger, spice and rose petal are all amplified to the maximum. This dense, extroverted Champagne is absolutely stunning, but it is not at all subtle. I loved it, but I could also see it being too excessive for some palates. Tasting it is like driving a car extremely fast – there’s no shortage of adventure. Bottled with no dosage.

And now for something completely different: the 2013 Champagne Vauzelle Terme Extra Brut is entirely Pinot Noir, disgorged in May 2022 with zero dosage. Pouring a copper hue, it jumps from the glass with a layered perfume of roasted chestnut (but not in a desiccated way), stone fruit, Mirabelle plum, and black raspberry. The palate has a supple, pillowy mousse, with full body and a long, saline finish. Exquisitely detailed, with wonderful balance and power, it can handle an entire meal or come with a main course. Drink 2024-2044.
The 2013 Extra-Brut Grand Cru Aÿ - Vauzelle Terme is showing nicely with a floral, fresh bouquet, evoking aromas of spring flowers, lily, licorice, pastry and crisp pear, but aeration reveals pastry and citrus notes. The Champagne is perfectly balanced on the palate and clearly expresses the fruity, straightforward character of the 2013 vintage. This 100% Pinot Noir was produced in only 2,522 bottles and 155 magnums.
