The 2013 Montviel has a dry nose, with brown spice and decaying autumn leaves, lacking some fruit intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with coarse tannins, a bit hollow with an austere finish. This should be drunk in the very near future. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Rich and fresh on the nose with only moderate fruit-weight on the mid palate and a stringy, rather green finish. (JR)
Softly-spoken red cherry and raspberry fruit, with waves of tobacco and undergrowth. Clear evolution, this finds it hard to gather any momentum through the palate. Not a lot of Pomerol signature although there is a gentle charm.
The 2013 Montviel was showing some dustiness on the nose, which obscures the terroir and fruit expression. The palate is better: light tannin, attractive red berry fruit with a leathery, tertiary finish indicating that this Pomerol is not in for the long-haul. Really, it is the aromatics that let this down, not the palate, which is disappointing after a great showing in barrel.
