Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2023-2029, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan 2024

Tasted blind. Rich, oaky/creamy aroma. Open and generous, with quite a bit of oak spice at first. On the palate, similar richness. Creamy in the extreme. Full in the mouth but balanced by a grapefruit-like freshness. (JH)

The 2020 La Louvière has a richer and more opulent bouquet than its peers, with lavish red cherries and mulberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a healthy dash of black pepper that complements the red fruit. It's a little grainy toward the finish. There's a sense of class about this Pessac-Léognan. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

100% Sauvignon Blanc from four terroirs: clay, limestone-clay, marl, gravel. More complex than the Rochemorin 2019 just tasted. Fruit and oak well integrated. Lovely freshness but gras as well. Good acidity for 2020. Seriously framed with line and length. (JL)

The 2020 La Louvière has turned out well in bottle, exhibiting aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, petals and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, supple and vibrant, with fine concentration, polished tannins and good length on the finish, this is a strong effort that will reward some bottle age. Recent vintages suggest that this is an estate on the rise.

Wine has been made at this estate since the 1300s, but its modern history begins when the Lurton family purchased it in 1965. The property was in disrepair, but the Lurtons have restored the château, winery and vineyards.
