The 2018 Plince, which I did not tasted from barrel, has a straightforward nose of dusky, earthy red berry fruit, truffle and light cedar aromas. The palate is better than the nose, delivering well-defined, quite edgy red fruit, fine acidity and quite an elegant finish. I would give this another couple of years in bottle and maybe the nose will just muster a little more personality.

Blended of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Plince offers up notions of espresso, cedar chest, menthol and tar over a core of preserved plums and baked blackberries with a waft of bouquet garni. The medium to full-bodied palate is jam-packed with black fruit preserves and savory layers, framed by grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with a minerally lift.
Spicy oak, crème de cassis, and graphite notes all emerge from the 2018 Château Plince, a medium-bodied, elegant, nicely textured Pomerol that has fine tannins and considerable charm. It should drink well for 10-12 years. The blend is 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, all from a 21-acre parcel of darker, compact, iron-laced soils.
