Tasted blind. Very deep colour. Rich, concentrated, savoury and serious. With a little kick of Cabernet on the end? A tad cocoa-like. (JR)

The 2018 Montviel has a vibrant, vivacious bouquet of brambly black fruit mixed with raspberry and light floral scents; this gains depth and intensity with aeration. The palate is very cohesive with nicely integrated oak, sweet and candied yet never cloying, offering raspberry ripple and blood orange notes toward the finish. Very fine.
Another killer Pomerol, the 2018 Château Montviel checks in as 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc brought up in plenty of new oak. This deep purple/ruby-hued beauty offers a gorgeous bouquet of cassis and black cherry fruits intermixed with lots of floral, chocolate, graphite, and cedary aromas and flavors. It has a slightly modern style at first, given its classy oak veneer, yet it still has textbook Pomerol finesse and elegance, plenty of earthy, complex, almost white truffle-like nuances, and outstanding length. It's a beautiful wine. If you're oak averse, give bottles 2-4 years and it should keep for 15+ years.
