The 2007 Norte hails from a time when this northern vineyard located adjacent to the Sonsierra forest in Laguardia, Rioja Alta was newly established,. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels and concrete vats, this mature red wine displays evolved characteristics with nuances of thyme, rosemary, dried figs and plums, accented by a hint of cedar. Light-bodied and silky on the palate, it features a refreshing core that exudes energy. This vibrant old red epitomizes the essence of the young vineyard, preserving its vigorous spirit within.

Surprisingly, the 2007 Norte is muted on the nose, but it unfurls nicely with aeration to reveal hints of orange blossom and briary. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannins supporting the black, licorice-tinged fruit. (60% tempranillo, with garnacha, graciano and mazuelo, from a vineyard planted at 680 meters): Bright purple. Heady dark berry aromas are complicated by intense floral, oak spice and spice accents and complemented by a deeper suggestion of vanilla. Plush mulberry and boysenberry flavors are deep, fleshy and sweet, with lively acidity giving the wine energy and clarity. Brighter red berry tones come up on the finish, where the floral and spice notes repeat.
