Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Nuits Saint Georges La Richemone 1er Cru 2011 has a lifted, ebullient, almost Beaujolais-like bouquet in terms of its precocity. It is well defined and musters more control with aeration, but there is the sense of these exotic aromatics straining at their leash. The palate is smooth and silky on the entry, very pure and refined, a dash of black pepper at the side of the mouth, good weight central with an impressive, weighty finish. Still young and primal but there is plenty of potential here.

Good full red. Musky red berries, blackberry and a whiff of vanilla on the nose; could use a bit more precision. Boasts good sweet crushed dark berry fruit flavors but a bit less verve than the La Riotte. A rather fat style in the context of this group of 2011s.
Today the 2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges La Richemone comes across as tight, compact and closed in on itself. This is one of the rare Perrot-Minot 2011s that is going to require time to fully come together. Tar, smoke, licorice and earthy notes inform the explosive, structured finish. The Richemone offers good potential, but it also clearly needs more time in bottle.
