Good deep red. Exotic, liqueur-like red fruits on the slightly stewed nose. Fat and rich but with a distinctly roasted character to the fruit, even a bit of incipient oxidation. Awkward for Chambolle premier cru and lacking freshness. Finishes with substantial, slightly drying tannins. Not my style.

Earthy black fruits are found in the nose of the medium to full-bodied 2003 Chambolle-Musigny Les Beaux Bruns. I adored the expansive nature of this rich wine as well as the way its silky-textured personality unleashed waves of flavors reminiscent of candied raspberries awash in cream and spices. If the note of roasted bitterness, detected in the finish, dissipates in time, it will unquestionably merit an outstanding score. Projected maturity: 2007-2014. Dark red. Flamboyant, wild nose melds purple fruits, leather, fresh blood and violet; vaguely Cote-Rotie-like. Fat, sweet, rich and full, with sappy flavors of dark berries and leather. Large-scaled, thick, slightly roasted wine, very much in the 2003 style. These vines were picked on September 1.
Deep crimson. Slightly cheesy nose, but beautifully sweet on the palate. Very true to the domaine. Very correct and 2003. I’d like slightly more acidity. (JR)
