The 2018 Bourgogne le Chapitre Rouge feels a little saccharine on the nose of smudged red fruit tinged with brown sugar. The palate is sweet on the entry with plush tannins, and lightly spiced, but it feels a little flabby on the finish at the moment given that this excellent terroir can provide more structure.

Hard limestone. Best terroir of the village of Marsannay but INAO missed it when they established the AOC. From the 2019 vintage, this lieu-dit will be a climat within the Marsannay appellation. Really close to Dijon (10 mins from the centre). 100% whole bunch. 25% new oak. Racked but put back into older barrels 10 days ago. Ripe, dark and spicy. An early site and it smells the ripest so far. Chewy black fruit, firm, chewy tannins. Embryonic. Smells more oaky than all the other reds. Deep, tannic, rich and long. Wait. (JH)
