Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2023-2028, Jancis Robinson MW, Oct 2023

Full bottle all of 1,554 g. Grown 12 km from the Pacific on slate. Transparent crimson. Sweet and herbal on the nose. There is more to this than many a Chilean Pinot. Raspberry fruit and lots of charm. Youthful but already drinkable. It's actually more broachable than its Chardonnay counterpart. But there is some fine tannin lurking underneath. This is one of the best Chilean Pinots, surely? Bright-fruited. Not complex but well constituted for a few more years in bottle. (JR)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Las Pizarras from Aconcagua Costa was fermented 15% as whole bunches before spending 12 months in French oak barrels, 45% of them new. A rich cherry red in hue. The complex nose offers precise sour cherry and sweetbrier notes with hints of elderberry and traces of blood against a cedar backdrop. Silky and refreshing in the mouth. The finely grained tannins are underlined by the long, tense finish of sour cherry. A tart red.

The nose of the 2021 Las Pizarras Pinot Noir is clean, floral, expressive and elegant, with purity and precision. This is clean and less earthy, with very fine tannins and full development of aromas and flavors. The grapes ripened slowly, and they developed more nuance; but the main difference can be in quality of the tannins, which are really velvety here. It has amazing freshness, reflected by a pH of 3.43. It's linear and vertical. They used a smaller percentage of full clusters in the native fermentation, 10%, and the wine matured in French oak barrels, 45% of them new, for 12 months. Superb, very elegant. 7,900 bottles were filled in June 2022.
