The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a pastille-like purity on the nose that, like the others from the Grand Cru, failed to truly elicit complexity or terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with finely spun tannins but, with aeration, it seems to oxidize and is therefore not marked. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a little more "gourmand" on the nose, cohering with time in the glass, loamy, almost peaty aromas emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-honed tannins. Lovely symmetry here, with a slight creaminess in texture towards the finish, where it feels very persistent. This is a lovely Charmes-Chambertin that should evolve wonderfully in bottle.
The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru derives from a one-hectare parcel in Mazoyères that's harvested in three picks and vinified in two vats. Medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, it's a sensual red evocative of dark berries, spices, sweet soil tones and baking chocolate.
