Checking in at a modest 12.8% alcohol, the 2021 Crozes-Hermitage Les Launes is going through a reductive phase. A bit of aeration unlocks shy raspberry, cranberry and red plum aromas. Aged 80% in stainless steel tanks and 20% in a combination of third- and fourth-fill barriques, the light- to medium-bodied 2021 delivers a lean and elegant profile, but it finishes fairly short.

For the 2021 vintage this is a rich and meaty Crozes with plenty of black pepper and some wet earth character. The tannin structure is also remarkably forthright for the vintage. Appealing crispness at the long finish. Drink or hold.
Leading off the reds, the 2021 Crozes Hermitage Les Launes is soft and forward, with charming strawberry and raspberry fruits as well as some floral and spice notes. This deliciously gulpable Syrah is best enjoyed in its youth.
Tasted blind. A creamy, luscious tinned-peach nose. A textured wine that has plenty of oak at the moment, which adds weight, and lactic notes – peach Melba. A broad finish but with an undercurrent of fresh acidity. (AC)
