The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru offers dark plummy fruit laced with violet. Some reduction is present, and it is difficult to dislodge despite transferring the wine between glasses. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins and dark berry fruit laced with cola. Good density and lightly spiced, it just feels a little made in the winery more than the vineyard at the moment. It seems to deteriorate in the glass, sadly. This was one of two or three wines from Grivot that did not perform in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with vivacious red berry fruit, kirsch and orange zest, very well-defined and focused. Love the energy of this Echézeaux. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit struck through with shucked oyster shell that defined the finish. Wonderful length. Bon vin.
Riper aromas are comprised by notes of spiced plum, exotic tea, violet and a whiff of wood toast. There is again fine richness, volume and mid-palate density to the caressing but punchy and solidly powerful flavors that stain the mouth with sappy dry extract while delivering even better persistence on the balanced and built-to-age finale. A benchmark name in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Jean Grivot is one of Burgundy’s most respected estates. They have an impressive array of vineyards, including plots in Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg.
