Note di degustazione
Retooled a bit since my previous visit, the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Caillou Le Tradition went to bottle as a 60-40 blend of Grenache and Syrah, and it incorporated some fruit from the family-owned Domaine de Panisse but no purchased fruit. There's a gentle herbal edge to the cherry and raspberry fruit, ample weight and concentration in the mouth and a long, silky-textured finish.

As to the Châteauneuf du Pape, the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape Tradition is based largely on Grenache, with smaller amounts of Syrah and Mourvedre. It's a silky, fruity, ready-to-go effort to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years, probably a decade. I found too many of these 2020s from Le Clos du Caillou to be surprisingly light in color and lacking in concentration.
70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. Aged in foudres. Cask sample. Lovely pitch of berry fruit, joyous and expressive. Palate supple but focused, the fruit expression held, the tannins firm but finely etched. Clean and fresh on the finish. More approachable than the Cuvées Spéciales. (JL)
