Punteggio 83/100 · Da bere 2019-2023, Neal Martin, Oct 2019

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is dark ruby in colour. It has quite a rich and opulent bouquet with candied red fruit, pastille-like and generous (in keeping with the vintage). The palate is medium-bodied with high-toned red and black fruit, gentle grip, a little one-dimensional in the scheme of things. The kind of Village Cru you would find in a bistro and not complain if it was too expensive, although prices seem on the high side. Tasted from an ex-domaine bottle in London.

Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, this domaine has a long history and impressive vineyards (with over five hectares of Grand Cru), but has long been considered an under-performer. Today, however, the Bouygues brothers (of Montrose and Clos Rougeard) have taken ownership and change is afoot.
