This domaine bottle is appealing with a perfumed nose, showing violet florals, cinnamon spice and sweet red fruit, as well as a creamy richness. The palate offers firm, taut red berry fruit, with an intensity, length and brightness that is lacking in some wines this year. There’s a note reminiscent of rose tea while the finish is dominated by savoury smoke.

The 2021 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a grubby nose. The palate is bitter and feels stripped; surely some TCA here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
The 2021 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a largely perfumed bouquet with black plum, raspberry and earthy notes, though I am seeking just a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A bit of wood needs to be eaten up. It has fine depth, though it does not possess the complexity of the 2020 on the finish. However, it should still give 15-odd years of pleasure.
