One of Duroché's smallest cuvées, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is beautiful, wafting from the glass with notes of plums, warm spices, cherries, orange rind and mint. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, with a textural attack, lively acids and terrific depth at the core, it is well worth seeking out.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru is 100% whole bunch and comes from vines trained higher since 2018. It is a little tighter on the nose compared to the Estournelles, later delivering incense and potpourri aromas entwined with plush red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins, pure red fruit and a fine bead of acidity that keeps it on its tiptoes. A bit of a doppelgänger for "Rousseau" in style, leading to a caressing, tender finish that belies the structure underneath. This is absolute class.
100% whole bunch. One barrel. These vines are now trained high à la Leroy. Tank sample. Quite intense red fruit compote aromas. Quite edgy and vital with a mineral streak. (JR)
