Deep ruby-red. Captivating aromas of wild blackberry and blueberry, lifted by a bright floral element. Suave, silky and deep, with the strong berry and bitter chocolate flavors brightened by harmonious acidity. This has terrific lively fruit and finishes with firm, ripe tannins. A superb showing. In contrast to the Zio Tony 2003, this is more vibrant than the 2002 release.

The 2003 Pinot Noir Bondi Home Ranch Water Trough Vineyard displays the darker, more primordial side of Pinot Noir with its plums, figs, and earthy black fruit nose. It actually comes from a relatively cool climate site in the Green Valley, and the result is a distinctive, spice-driven, exotic style of Pinot Noir that will no doubt be somewhat controversial. I would drink it over the next 5-7 years. Tel. (707) 525-0570; Fax (707) 525-9463

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
