The 2019 Mourvedre is heavenly juice and you're not going to find a better example of this variety. Thrilling notes of white pepper, red and black fruits, cured meats, sandalwood, and leather all soar from the glass, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, perfect balance, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. The mouthfeel, balance, and length on this are straight-up stunning, and you should beg, borrow, or steal to try this. This was another brilliant lineup from Jim Binns. The 2019s here are easily the finest I’ve ever tasted, and the 2020s don’t appear to be far behind, although they bring a touch more oomph compared to the powerful, yet elegant 2019s.

The 2019 Mourvèdre turned out beautifully. It captures all of the natural intensity of the wine with the savoriness that is typical of a Mourvèdre. Tobacco, cedar, leather, spice and dried herbs lend layers of nuance. The 2019 is powerful and complex. It's a classic and terrific wine from Andremily. (AG)

The 2019 Mourvèdre may be the best example I've tasted of this variety—and it is undisputedly a the top example of varietal Mourvèdre from the U.S. This vintage is blended with 18% Syrah and 1% Viognier and was made with 75% whole clusters. Fruit comes from the Alta Mesa Vineyard, Bien Nacido Vineyard and Larner Vineyard in Santa Barbara County and the G2 Vineyard in Paso Robles. It was matured for about 21 months in 50% new French barriques and 600-liter demi-muids and 50% used barriques. Deep ruby in color, it offers slowly opening aromas of blueberry liqueur, violet, lavender and turned earth with touches of forest floor, mint leaves and coffee beans. The full-bodied palate explodes with layer after layer of nuanced blue fruits, with savory undertones hinting at more to come as it matures in bottle. It has abundant, finely grained tannins, bursts of fresh acidity highlighting its floral perfume and a very long, layered finish. Bottled August 7, 2021, and tasted May 25, 2022, around 490 cases and a few magnums are available. It will be sold as part of a three-bottle set ($330), while magnums will be sold in a box set with the 2019 Andremily No. 8.

The 2019 Mourvèdre is a real powerhouse. Inky and explosive, the 2019 envelopes the palate with notable depth, pretty much burying the 75% whole clusters. The flavors are incredibly primary at this stage, and yet the potential here is evident. Dollops of Syrah and Viognier round out the blend. Aging is expected to be 21 months in equal parts new and used French oak.
