Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2025-2035, Audrey Frick, jebdunnuck.com, Dec 2025

Based on the 2021 vintage with 50% reserve from 2018 to 2020, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Chardonnay D'Oger Interlude No 3 Brut Nature is the third edition of this wine. (No. 3 is on the back label.) Pouring a medium straw/golden color and offering a more focused feeling, the palate has a nice level of tension and is delicious upfront, with a delicate, creamy texture underneath its more savory elements. I love this wine in this vintage. It boasts pure notes of candied lemon, fresh pastry cream, croissant dough, and brothy, yellow floral notes, all framed beautifully by toast, which lends refined notes of peach and floral character. It’s compact, with a silky texture and a lively mousse. It has the potential to improve over the next 10 years and should continue to drink well over the next 20 years. Disgorged in May 2024. The producers at Domaine Vincey are the eighth generation of growers but the first generation of winemakers, building their operation from scratch ten years ago with a vision to make Champagne they love to drink themselves. They work eight hectares, mostly in Oger, with very old vines (90% planted from the 1930s through the 1970s) from massale selection. Their main focus is on the vines, working with a rational biodynamic approach that incorporates tangible practices beyond organic. Oger is an amphitheater with deep brown clay soil at the bottom of the village, which brings power to the wines. The estate produces around 60,000 bottles a year, and they use their own must and yeast for prisse de mousse without increasing alcohol, an approach they've experimented with since 2018. Some plots are set aside for single-vineyard bottlings, a Burgundian idea.

Based on the 2021 vintage, complemented with 50% reserve wines from 2018 and 2020, the third edition of Domaine Vincey’s NV Blanc de Blancs Interlude, disgorged in May 2024 without dosage, is the only non-vintage Champagne from the grower. Derived from three old-vine plots planted with massal selection Chardonnays, which Vincey also bottles separately as standalone cuvées, it is composed of Le Grand Jardin in Oger and Chemin de Châlons and Auge in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Soaring from the glass with aromas of dried white flowers, lemon zest and toasted bread, it combines the bright, incisive structure of the 2021 vintage with the more mature, round fruit of its predecessors, informed by long maturation on the lees in barrels.

A hint of a darker profile comes from the aromas in the NV Champagne Grand Cru Interlude Oger Brut-Naturen with wet asphalt initially lifting from the glass, followed by a bit of smoke, mango, and ripe pear. The palate is tension-driven and has more savory appeal, with a rich, salty texture as well as notes of tarragon, a bit of toast, and peach. Drink 2024-2042.
