Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2028-2040, Neal Martin, Feb 2024

The 2021 La Pointe was tasted from a sample bottle that I had the chance to allow to open. It has a very agreeable bouquet, more immediate than some of its Pomerol peers: mulberry and raspberry, touches of peppermint and sage, all nicely defined and demonstrating a decent level of ripeness. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh entry. Quite elegant in style, this is cohesive, approachable and endowed with fine tension. The finish, in particular, has a precision that deserves a round of applause. The 2021 is delicious and certainly a success given the growing season.

An attractive, easy going and well delivered Pomerol. Before the recent improvements at La Pointe, it might have struggled to keep appellation character in this kind of vintage, meaning that here you have real proof of how far they have come over the past decade. The fruit deliviers sweet raspberry puree, red cherry, touches of redcurrant, grilled campfire smoke, fennel, orange peel, fresh acidities that translate into a juicy finish that keeps you engaged. Pristine, fresh and forward nose showing currant leaves, red berries, roasted chili pepper and a hint of chocolate. Juicy and very fluid on the medium-bodied palate packed with fine, creamy tannins and a lengthy, linear finish. Already delicious, but should hold well in the next five to six years.

82% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc. Deep crimson. Initial impression is sweet oak spice, slightly leafy black fruit. A bit lean on the palate, dry tannins are fine-grained but still a bit drying because the fruit doesn't quite balance the structure. (JH)
