Readers looking for a hidden little gem in the vintage will love the 2021 Château Beaumont, a medium-bodied, balanced, satisfying Haut-Médoc based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot. Ripe red and black fruits, saddle leather, tobacco, and cedary nuances all define this forward, ready-to-go, complex 2021 that's hard to resist today yet will keep for a solid decade in cold cellars.
The 2021 Beaumont has opened nicely on the nose since I tasted it from barrel: blackberry and cedar to the fore, aromatics with a spring in their step. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm entry. This is a strict Beaumont—classic in style, quite briny and saline with just a slightly "blocky" finish. The 2021 is in keeping with its showing from barrel…but an extra point for the uptick in the aromatics.
The 2021 Beaumont is a beautiful, expressive Haut-Médoc to drink now and over the next decade or so. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and cedar open first. Aromatic and medium in body, with impeccable balance, Beaumont is very nicely done. Pretty floral overtones lift the finish.
