FINE+RARE, Apr 2024

A blend of Petit Verdot and Ancelotta (a native grape to Emilia-Romagna), this is a fascinating wine from Matthew Fioretti’s side-label (also made at Cerbaiona). He had originally set out to make a monovarietal Petit Verdot but found it too firm, choosing to blend it with Ancelotta for its fleshy fruit. The result is swarthy and serious, laden with sweet plum and bramble fruit, framed by sandy tannins and bright acidity too. A wine that begs for food, and is unsurprisingly moreish.

Da bere 2023-2028, FINE+RARE, Jan 2023

P.V.D. is a blend of 58% Petit Verdot (a rare sight in Tuscany) and 42% Ancelotta (a native grape from the Emilia-Romagna region). It has a fresh and elegant nose with ripe and rich dark red fruit, thanks to the warmth of 2019. The palate is light-bodied but with succulent tannins and an enjoyable sweetness that drives a long cherry-and-plum finish. This is moreish, leaving you reaching for another glass. Only the second vintage of Matthew Fioretti’s eponymous label, this is great value for money, especially with only 4,700 bottles produced.

Matthew Fioretti Profile 3-2
M.L. Fioretti

Matthew Fioretti is the winemaker who took over the Cerbaiona estate in 2015. M.L. Fioretti is his “other” label, a small range of limited-production bottlings of indigenous grapes and Bordeaux varietals, made with the same supreme attention to detail as his cult Brunello di Montalcino.
