NV Jerome Prevost La Closerie Extra Brut

Note di degustazione
La Closerie’s NV Extra Brut & (LC22), based predominantly on the 2022 vintage with approximately 20% reserve wine from 2021, is a Gueux-sourced blend produced from purchased fruit. The soils in the parcels informing this cuvée are notably sandier than those of Prévost’s own vineyard in Gueux. The blend also includes fruit from the cooler microclimate of Janvry, along with a small proportion from Les Béguines—“a bridge to the next cuvée,” as Prévost notes. Disgorged in October 2024, the wine unfurls in the glass with aromas of peach, red apple and toasted nuts, though it also exhibits a slightly high-toned edge on the nose with an elevated level of volatile acidity—an element that occasionally surfaces in this comparatively erratic cuvée. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with ripe yet brisk acidity and good tension.

The NV Extra Brut Rosé Fac-similie LC20 is rich and layered, offering up aromas of cherries, sweet red berries and plums mingled with warm spices and mandarin oil, followed by a full-bodied, deep and vinous palate, its satiny attack segueing into a sweet, layered mid-palate, concluding with a long, resonant finish. Like its white counterpart, this will reward a bit of patience.
Jérôme Prévost’s NV Rosé Fac-simile (2019)—composed primarily of the 2019 vintage and complemented by 20% reserve wines from 2018—was disgorged in October 2021 with a dosage of 2.5 grams per liter. Now three and a half years post-disgorgement, it continues to drink superbly. The wine unfurls from the glass with a deep bouquet of ripe red berries, exotic spices and orange zest, mingling with darker, savory undertones that lend complexity to its aromatic profile. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, vinous, multifaceted and intensely expressive, exhibiting remarkable concentration. Its vibrant acidity and attractive, bitter phenolics serve to amplify the wine’s mineral signature, leading to a long, resonant finish. Now entering its prime drinking window, this cuvée stands at a perfect point in its evolution, as the organic fruit tones begin to recede, revealing the profound, terroir-driven imprint beneath.
A straw-copper hue, the NV Champagne & Extra Brut is based on the 2020 vintage and is generous and giving out of the gate, opening with juicy aromas of strawberry, orange sherbet, brioche, shortbread, white flowers, and almond. Medium to full-bodied, it floods the palate with pure fruit and salted citrus on the finish. Long on the palate, it’s incredible now but will have a solid drinking window ahead of it. Drink 2024-2040.
