Displaying a more introverted bouquet with darker fruit than Groffier's Les Sentiers, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 1er Cru is tightly-coiled, with black pepper and forest floor scents. There is genuine complexity in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with a rich and generous opening, more glycerin compared to its peers and a slightly honeyed (in terms of texture) finish. Probably one of the later picked Chambolle Premier Cru, it has exotic traits, but pulls the style off well. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Barrel sample. Not a climat I come across often! Again, very dark crimson. Sample a little tired on the nose. Quite raw fruit. A little awkward and unresolved at the moment. Furry tannins on the end. (JR)
There is just a barrel and a half (both used) of the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 1er Cru this year. It has an elegant, well-defined bouquet featuring more red fruit than the Charmes or Cras. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and crisp, leading to a lightly spiced, quite linear finish. Classic Chambolle... maybe with a dab of Morey?
