My favorite vintage of the vertical, Morlet's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallee is incredibly deep and intense, loaded with almost liquorous-smelling notes of cassis and plum. Full-bodied, ripe, creamy and plush, this wine really nails it, with a velvety-silky texture and enormous length on the finish. It's pretty amazing stuff that's delicious now and should continue to drink well for another 20 years.

Powerful dark chocolate, cocoa bean, espresso, liquorice, cassis and smoked earth, rosemary, turmeric spice, wonderfully expressive and just now softening up the tannins enough to really let out the fruit. Beckstoffer To Kalon fruit. 85% new oak, native yeast fermentation, bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Coeur de Vallée comes all from Beckstoffer’s portion of the To Kalon Vineyard and it’s a thrill a minute, offering awesome notes of blue fruits, chocolate, incense, candied violets, and high-class cigar tobacco. As seamless and elegant as they come, yet also opulent and sexy, this remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon could come from nowhere else in the world. Drink it over the coming 2-3 decades.
The 2016 Coeur du Vallée emerges from Beckstoffer To Kalon. Dark cherry, plum, chocolate, licorice and spice develop in the glass, but only with great reluctance. Today, the Coeur du Vallée is the least expressive wine in this range. Time in bottle should do the trick, as the 2016 has tons of fruit that is dense, packed and waiting to one day finally emerge and show everything it has to offer.
