For this cooler vintage, Francisco opted to reduce the portion of whole-bunch fermentation a little. The wine is bright, crunchy and pure, with a lovely restraint from the extended growing season. Floral tones (rose, violet) sit alongside crunchy red fruit, leading to a palate of effortless purity and length. Vibrant, mouth-wateringly fresh with an earthy, saline finish and very fine tannins. Aged for 10 months in 10% new oak. Production: 13,400 bottles

The 2021 Los Parientes is easily the best Pinot Noir Baettig has made at the estate so far and a real jump up in quality from 2020 and 2019. The nose has great fruit clarity with rich, ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit aromas. The grilled herbal notes sit beautifully in the background, adding depth and complexity to the aromas. The whole-bunch is also better integrated on the palate, bringing lots of texture, matched by vibrant acidity and saline notes on the finish. It reminds me of a village Morey-Saint-Denis from a ripe vintage in its fruit profile with earthy, blackberry coulis fruit. The wine certainly has a more European/cool-climate edge to it.

FINE+RARE, Aug 2022

The 2021 Pinot Noir has lovely whole-bunch fruit character, beautifully integrating with the pristine primary fruit flavours – a perfect blend of herbal notes, perfumed scented rose petal and bright red berries. It has a glycerol mid palate richness typical of top quality new world Pinot but with a bright acid backbone and earthy, savoury tone more typical of Burgundy. The combination is fantastic.

There’s a nice spicy framing, with a touch of undergrowth, alongside the sweet black fruit here. Ripe and fruit-driven but with some nice savoury notes framing the fruit and then a fine spicy finish. Tangy with a sour cherry finish. Lovely wine.

The 2021 Vino de Viñedo Los Parientes Pinot Noir was produced with some 10% full clusters and indigenous yeasts followed by nine months in barrel, 13% of them new 300-liter oak barrels and the rest used 228-liter ones. It has 13.5% alcohol and is direct, aromatic, with red fruit and notes of rosehip. The color and the nose keep the youth and primary aromas but with good ripeness and development of flavors; there's nothing herbal or green about it. 13,416 bottles were filled in December 2021.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Vino de Viñedo Los Parientes, from Malleco, Traiguén, was aged for 9 months in 13% new barrels. Intense purple in the glass. The clear, full, alluring aromas include sweetbriar, red fruit, sour cherry, elderberry and hints of earth and mushrooms. Fluid with a terse texture, fine-grained tannins that keep things compact, and a little grip; the base is formed by the elegant freshness before the lengthy finish and elderberry aftertaste. A pure, delicate wine.
