There’s a lick of lime curd on the nose here, with tightly wound greengage emerging with air. It’s pure and linear, driven with its intense, stony purity, but there’s a pleasing fatness to the fruit behind, with a mouth-wateringly juicy finish and long, saline tang to the finish. Aged for 10 months in only used oak. Production: 16,909 bottles

FINE+RARE, Sep 2022

The 2021 vintage in Traiguén is looking very special based on these early bottlings of Vino de Viñedos (the more premium Selección de Parcelas will be released next year). The nose is complex, with green herbal tones allied to chalky, briny, mineral notes. The palate retains that distinct vertical, Chablis-esque character, but also has a lovely, rich mid-palate. The tautness brings great energy to the wine. The wine has all you want in an acid-driven Chardonnay – varietal expression, verticality, salinity and a long, refreshing finish. This is exceptional value at under £20.

Da bere 2022-2028, FINE+RARE, Aug 2022

The 2021 Chardonnay is like a volcanic Chablis. It has wonderful mineral tension and bitter lemon fruit but with a distinct salinity and light smokiness so distinct of volcanic soils. What defines the palate is its tautness and vibrant energy. It is beautifully pure and elegant with mineral freshness and fantastic quality Chardonnay for the price.

Lovely aromatics here with fine toasty detail and a note of baked bread as well as ripe yellow fruits and a twist of lime. The palate has nice energy with good acidity and lemony detail, as well as subtle peachy, bready richness. There’s some pineapple in the mix, too, and a bitter edge to the finish that counters the ripe fruit.

The 2021 Vino de Viñedo Los Parientes Chardonnay reflects the cooler year with even lower alcohol, 13%, and higher acidity (8.25 grams of tartaric acid per liter of wine). It was harvested the second half of April, which is very late for the region, as it's usually harvested in early April, which meant a slow and thorough ripening of the grapes. The difference with 2018 is that the end of the season was dry and the grapes were healthy and got a better development of aromas and flavors. There are no differences in the work in the winery: pressing of the full clusters, native fermentation in French barriques and 10 months of élevage. Pristine, fresh, chiseled and elegant, with purity and harmony, austere and dry, there's no room for sweetness here (or anywhere at this address!). It has integrated oak and is vibrant and salty. A bargain for the quality. 16,909 bottles were filled in January 2022.

Stone fruits, chalky stony notes and fresh white-peach aromas. A sense of ripe stone fruit on the palate with a subtle toasty note underneath. The acidity profile on this is magical, refreshing, salty, chalky and with a slight toasted note beneath. The potential of this vineyard is quite something! (AC)
