A lovely wine, the 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru bursts with aromas of sweet berries, cherries, licorice, orange rind and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, perfumed and fine-boned, it's a seamless, elegant wine, built around supple, powdery tannins and lively balancing acids.

The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru was a little muted on the nose when I tasted it, despite rigorous coaxing. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and lightly spiced, just a little fieriness towards the finish that leaves the tongue tingling on the aftertaste. Fine, although I would like to see more expressed aromatically.

Domaine Duroché has, under Pierre Duroché, become one of the most sought-out and respected wine domaines in Gevrey-Chambertin. The wines are delicate and detailed, yet with old-vine intensity, a clear sense of place and style – and it’s easy to see why they’ve rapidly become so in-demand.
