The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru comes across as a little prune-like on the nose, a little Tuscan, though it retains delineation and avoids any heat. Burly and a bit…self-aggrandizing? The palate is medium-bodied with sweet, ripe black cherries and boysenberry jam, a little confit-like with a slightly cloying finish. This tasted much better in barrel. This is a strange showing, especially compared to Mortet's excellent Gevreys. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru, containing 50% whole bunch, has an intense bouquet, dark berry fruit mixed with sea cave/marine scents, perhaps a touch of shucked oyster shell here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, smooth and silky in texture with a fresh, taut and quite persistent finish. You will be smitten by its effervescent personality.
