The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has an opulent and quite alcoholic bouquet, very Mediterranean in style. A touch of peppermint comes through with aeration. The palate is rich and toasty, with black fruit laced with white pepper. It's tarry and (again) more akin to a wine from southern Italy than Burgundy. It is marked by heat on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Earthy, damp earth and violet with dark cherry, sandalwood and spice. Lively mid plate with a good lick of acidity – chewy tannins and a long, layered finish. Ferrous notes on the finish. (AC)
The 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles wafts from the glass with aromas of ripe berries, raw cocoa, licorice, rose petals and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, this Pinot Noir has a deep core of fruit, lively acids, powdery tannins and a long, saline finish.
