Da bere 2023-2030, FINE+RARE, Jul 2021

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a lovely brooding nose rich in liquorice spice, baked strawberries and more savoury, grilled, green, herbal notes. There is real depth to the palate and an impressive spectrum of fruit flavours from the more tart redcurrant and raspberry to riper baked wild strawberry and greener garrigue notes. It has a lovely vinous quality with the savoury, earthy and dry spice tones bringing impressive complexity to the palate.

A tank-aged Grenache selection from sandy sites, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape features pretty lavender and garrigue shadings, plus raspberries, cherries and hints of stone fruit. It's full-bodied, concentrated and tannic but ripe and should come good in time.

Lots of ripe black cherries, leather, candied violets, and peppery herb notes emerge from the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape, which is almost all Grenache (99%) that was brought up all in concrete tanks. Beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, and nicely structured, it has some of the vintage's savory, firm tannins, but this is beautifully done and will benefit from a year or two of bottle age and keep for over a decade.

Domaine Font de Courtedune

Domaine Font de Courtedune – for now, at least – is something of an insider’s secret. With vineyards right next door to Ch. Rayas, and sharing the same sandy soils, this tiny Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate produces outstanding wines that are a fraction of the price of those of its famous neighbour.
