Note di degustazione
A kiss of charred cedar oak, and this feels a little angular in its tannins right now, needs time in the glass to show the concentrated liqourice, blueberry and spiced plum fruit, alongside bitter black chocolate and eucalyptus. From 4 plots of Coonawarra fruit spanning up to 60 years old, 50% new French oak, Peter Gago chief winemaker.

The first Penfolds wine to be sold on the Place. Very deep colour. The nose is powerful and very ripe, full of blackberry and other roasted, brambly fruit. Roasted plum and vanilla bean burst through on the palate. This is refined, but sweet and heady. Leathery, spicy and full bodied. Long and sweet to the finish. (TP)
First vintage 1973, revived in 2008. Does for 707 Cabernet what RWT does for Grange (ie protects the style), according to Peter Gago. French oak. Less ripe than the 407; the fruit is more 'European' dare I say, while retaining the Australian glossiness. Still very compact and closed, yet shining brightly, somehow. A tour de force. (RH)
A very elegantly complex nose with meticulously fresh aromas that range from red florals to violets, blueberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants and such sweetly perfumed cedary-oak spice. The palate has a very elegant, focused and piercingly central delivery of fine tannins, carrying pristine redcurrant and blackcurrant flavors. Seamlessly long, super fine and really packed with concentrated, contained, red-cherry and redcurrant flavors. Impressive. Drink or hold.
